Ain't No Makin' It Chapter 7

You approach the Hallway Hangers. 

According to sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, since the Hangers are at the bottom of the class structure, their aspirations should be modest.  You find this to be true.  They see their chances of moving upward as very slim because they do not see themselves as capable of achieving any more than their parents or peers have in the past. 

Most of the Hangers have held summertime jobs, but most attempts at finding stable jobs have ended poorly, giving them an even more negative outlook.
